About Tressa
I am a registered nurse, former forensic nurse examiner, mother, and writer.
For much of my life, I understood trauma through survival. Later, I learned to understand it through science.
My work in emergency and forensic nursing gave me language for patterns I had lived long before I could name them — hypervigilance, appeasement, nervous system dysregulation, generational inheritance. The research did not replace my story. It illuminated it.
The Fan in the Window grew from that intersection — lived experience and trauma-informed understanding. It is a memoir about domestic violence, generational patterns, accountability, and the complicated work of interruption.
I am not interested in blame. I am interested in awareness.
Healing is rarely dramatic. It is often quiet. It begins with honesty and continues with repair.
I am also the host of The Fan in the Window Podcast, where I explore trauma, regulation, and generational change through conversation and reflection.
I speak and write about generational trauma, nervous system regulation, and the process of interrupting inherited patterns.
I live in Maryland with my husband. I am a mother of four and a grandmother. The work of interruption is ongoing.
